Comment by myogyi on January 2, 2011 at 8:30am There will be always Window and Linux users all the time. No one can say that Linux will be dominated and Window will disappear because of different users have different requirements.
But, comparing between, crashing and stability and security point of view, WIndow 7 is better than any other predecssors, but still not perfect like as *nix.
But, it's clear that if user want to use for performance, there will many preventions to block and need to tweak in system level to get optimum. This is want most user don't like. From user point of view, all they want is "AUTOMATIC" and "ONE CLICK".
Initially, coming *.nix to the IT world is not for "Desktop" users. Main purpose is for "Server" to give request to "CLIENT. So, it's not like WIndows Desktop anyway.
But, one thing what I really like Ubuntu is "startup time and shutdown time" is really awesome.

Comment by Ye Maw on December 31, 2010 at 3:53pm It is should to use Linux (Ubuntu) if Microsoft did not release Window 7.
Linux (Ubuntu) is quite good, but however it also contains some errors, and then Wine Software is not always useful.
I'm currently using dual OS, Win 7(Unlicensed Version) and Ubuntu. But I didn't find any facts to say Ubuntu is better than Win 7. But - USING UNLICENSED VERSION is NOT GOOD.

Comment by Wayne on June 4, 2010 at 3:19pm Sean Lin: @Sandah, Linux users can play DiretX games through Wine. Mono on Linux has some serious problems actually if you are doing Web Services (which is the on-going trend and future)...Moonlight is very buggy
To say it short, Linux is not for serious MSFT development...and also not for creative people. Have you ever seen any well-known creative studio using GIMP over Photoshop? Nada..
Sandah Aung One of the undeniable truths about the Mono project is that they had to sign an agreement with Microsoft in order to avoid lawsuits. Part of this agreement is that Mono team cannot extend the specifications set by Microsoft so their creativity is limited to reimplementing the Windows version of dot net on Linux and optimising it. Everyone has to ... See moreadmit that they have done a very impressive job given Microsoft does not want to disclose details of how their Windows APIs work.
The work of Mono guys is further limited by the fact that the Free Software Foundation, the organisation that drives open source philosophy. They cannot win the devotion of serious open source developers without SFS's support. The efforts of the Mono blokes are even further damned by the supporters of Microsoft who view the open source counterpart of dot net with suspicion.
History has shown that open source projects improve with time and this is what I've been seeing with each Mono release. I believe that one day Mono can become a serious contender to Visual Studio in the web service arena and if Microsoft can prove SilverLight's worth as an RIA client, there is going to be a lot of developer interest in MoonLight and a lot of improvement as a result.
Regarding creative development, I have never viewed Microsoft's platform as a source creativity. Companies such as Adobe and Apple have always dominated the creative landscape since the dawn of PC era and recently Apple had outdone Microsoft in many areas previously considered Microsoft's territory. On the web front, Microsoft has been facing serious assaults from Google and unless Microsoft can change, there may be a time when open source rules the world and Microsoft's products including Windows and Visual Studio are dragged (kicking and screaming) into being open sourced. Who wants this future?
Sean Lin The thing that hold back Mono is Microsoft patents...Microsoft never make it clear about the patent usage...so people and company are reluctant develop in Mono.
