Normally, you have to confiugre in Printer's menu LCD screen to the IP address which is the right one for your network. Don't assume it's 192.168.1.1. Check the manual how to go to Menu and configure LAN settings.

After that, you can install TCP/IP Port in WIndow XP and add "Generic device" and install printer driver. Then, you can be print.

Network printer configuration problem

I want to configure network printer for the office. But I cant find my printer on the network. I know the port IP address is192.168.1.1and Subnet is 255.255.255.0 . The problem is when plug in to the printer I cant ping that port. I join with the computer I can ping the port. The printer software can install only on XP window. I want to know is
Do I need to assign the IP on printer? If I need to how to I assign?
Do I need to assign the IP at Server?
Is it cable problem or printer’s NIC problem?
Can u tell me how to set up network printer step by step?

Normally when I plug in the network cable on printer, I can ping that port right? I set up the network printer on the laptop as usual, I cant find that printer, so I type manual TCP/IP and installed the driver. And then they ask the generic network card or choose the type of connect printer sever type. After finished the installation I cant print. Why?
