Dear All,
Can I know that what frequency assigned by MPTcan we use freely in myanmar.
Now I'm going to use wireless(eg, Trango, EnGenius...2.4 Ghzor 5 Ghz) between our head office and branch office. It's about 300 km far. I'd like to know that if we set up that wireless AP, do we need any permission from MPT?
Is there any documents released by MPT about frequency?
Anybody know please?
Thanks&Regards;

Permalink Reply by Jake on February 3, 2012 at 12:04pm Which frequency are you planning to use? What are the frequencies does the product support?
If you are going to use unlicensed spectrum, you don't need to get approval.
You should check with MPT because we don't have any MPT engineer here.
In US and most other countries 2.4GHz, 5.2/5.3/5.8GHz are unlicensed and that's why you see most of home wireless AP use those frequencies.
Connecting office to office falls under WAN and there is a license by MPT/PTD to setup WAN.
You may/may not need that license. You better check that too.
Btw 300 km is pretty far. Are you sure EnGenius can support without any mesh or repeater?
Permalink Reply by everstand on February 3, 2012 at 2:22pm thank u for ur reply Mr. Jake.
As I mentioned above, We're planing to use frequency between 2.4Ghz and 5 Ghz.
I'm sure Engenius or Trango product can support that frequency.
We know we can set up AP without informing MPT. But in case, we need document
support. I already asked MPT but they didn't explain me clearly. Someone said no
need permission and another said to tell their superiors(CE or DyCE). I think
it's not a big one.It don't need to hair-split. As you said, they should annouce
which frequency can be used by unlicense.
Sale supplier said that Engenius can support 300 km very well.
Any suggestion more plz?

Permalink Reply by Jake on February 3, 2012 at 4:15pm I believe wireless products these days can support super long range. 300km is nearly 200 miles. My understanding is you will need repeater or meshing in between. And the question is if you need repeater, where do you place that repeaters in between and how do you get power and safety for location, etc. For company's private network with such long distance, doesn't make sense to do wireless super long range setup. I may be wrong due to lack of product knowledge that I don't know any wireless product that can reach 300km without any repeater.
I know your supplier is not saying no repeater is needed. But if you need repeater, placement of repeaters will be big headache. Most ISP use existing telcom's towers for wireless or microwave antenna but I don't think private company can simply put your own antenna inside government's telecom towers.
I am quite interested in your idea of connecting HQ and branch offices via wireless which are pretty far.

Permalink Reply by Jake on February 3, 2012 at 8:57pm 300m is quite easy to manage by wireless. Should be ok with any outdoor wireless.
A bit strange that your branch office is just around the corner.
Permalink Reply by everstand on February 6, 2012 at 1:19pm yeah.. you are right.
I'd like to go back to my first question.
1. Can we set up outdoor wireless AP without informing MPT?
2. Is there any document support for unlicensed frequency assigned by MPT?
Any way thanks a lot Jake for ur patiently reply.

Permalink Reply by Jake on February 6, 2012 at 10:22pm You are welcome. But our country is a bit complicated in terms of rules and regulation. Because nobody bother to ask government agencies and simply bribe officials for license and permit, we are not familiar and lost awareness of such office works. So there's no easy answers for your case. Even if you ask local MPT staffs from your township, they may not know. Because nobody probably asked before. :)
But I still suggest you to ask MPT IT department. Call the numbers below. And let us know what they reply too, for the sake of knowledge for the rest of us.
